Yesterday night, it started snowing in Munich! Guess it’s that time of the year already… Alright, bring on the pre-christmas-feelings! 8)

After the tour
Well well well… Since I don’t have access to my iPhoto installation at the moment (but help is on the way…) I was not importing the pictures I took during the past few weeks. Therefore, I also did not publish anything here ๐
Alright, here we go: First of all, I want to complain that all my young cousins always misconceive me for a climbing instrument… But hey, it’s for the family, so I just shut up and stop whining ๐ Just having arrived back in Munich after my tour, I had a nice chicken-wings-dinner at Marcus’ appartment with Finn, Gunnar and Marcus’ successor, Paula. It’s good to see them once in a while ๐ Hmm, talking about food: My mom presented me the traditional Mohrenkopftorte for my birthday and Selai made a very delicious strawberry cake (but without strawberries ๐ ) for my birthday party at the Sausalitos bar. Hmmmm *yummy* But we also had delicious ribs, tons of cocktails and loads of fun! Thanks everyone for coming!!
After all that excitement, I was eager to return to Bad Aibling for a few days of peace ๐ Together with Chrisi and Tia, I spent a fun evening at the annual medieval-festival in Maxlrain (which is always conveniently taking place just a kilometer away from home), watched the fire acrobats and all the other stuff, had tons of good food etc etc. I also found myself in the newspaper! The newspaper’s photographer took a picture at the start of the Bรคderlauf and I’m in the very center of the picture ๐
On Tuesday, we also had a chance to meet Flo during his short-trip to Germany when he was organizing a small jam session with family and friends! It was nice to see him again – we only met once in Barcelona ๐ Returning to Munich, Andrea, Chiara and me stopped in Gรถtting where we met Pronita and her mom from India who had just arrived in Germany. Of course, we had lots of food there, too… (damn, I really should pay attention not to get fat!)
Back in Munich, I spend some days doing sports (finally…), sorting my mail etc. Aaaand I finally managed to go to the Wiesn! It was planned to be a gathering of colleagues from my studies but in the end, I was the only one there… Grmbl! Anyways, as I dragged some friends along, it was a nice afternoon / evening – and we were very lucky to find a good spot to sit and eat at in the Hofbรคuzelt.
What a weekend this has been…
Wow, what a weekend! On Friday afternoon, a friend from Tokyo, Tomoko, arrived from Frankfurt where she was visiting a friend. To represent Bavaria and its hospitality, I took up the challenge of being her host and tour guide for the time she was staying here ๐ We started off with some delicious food at the Paulaner im Tal and some cocktails at the nearby Sausalitos bar.
After that we just returned to my place and called it a day. On Saturday morning I got up and did some jogging with Andi – who had nothing better to do but to strain his ankle… Awesome, now we can’t go to the gym because his thumb’s messed up and we can’t go running because of his foot! ๐ I’m gonna gain weight if his streak of injuries continues like this…
At the time I got back to my appartment, Tomoko was finally awake ๐ and we buzzed off to Schluss Nymphenburg. It’s one of the biggest royal palaces in Europe and features a huge park and impressive alleys from the outside. I’ve never seen the inside, actually and Tomoko wanted to take a look at the gallery of beauties in the museum. I’m usually not so much into old-fashioned architecture or arts but this was really impressive! Magnificent architecture, light everywhere and the original baroque stucco definitely are some things to remember.
After spending some time at the castle, we returned to the inner city where we took a walk around town. We then met Marcus at the Odeonsplatz, where the rehearsal for the open air classic concert was going on – pretty cool atmosphere there! Oh and San Francisco Coffee Company: Thanks for the great coffee ๐ (damn I should get paid for doing commercials like this…)
From the Odeonsplatz we went on to the Marienplatz in order to take a look at the new town hall of Munich and to climb up to the observation deck of the Alter Peter church tower. The view from there is just awesome – one can see most of the city and even into the mountains (on clear days, of course). Before we got there, we had a nice random encounter for which the chances might be even tinier than winning the lottery – let’s just say that maybe I got a first foot in the door at finding a job in Tokyo… Anyways, here are some pictures:
Oh and I completely forgot to mention that I was wondering the whole day what’s going on in the city because many people were there and a slight sensation of party was in the air – it happened to be Christopher Street Day! When we arrived at the Marienplatz, we finally found out about that ๐ Eventually we were really tired from walking and decided to spend the rest of the afternoon in the Englischer Garten, Munich’s biggest park area.
Having returned to my place for a shower and a few minutes of rest, we rushed out again to Hieu’s farewell party. He’s departing for his new job in Tokyo today and I ENVY HIM SO MUCH for that ๐ Unfortunately, my cam ran out of battery then and so I did not take any pictures there… In the end, it was a great party and I wish Hieu all the best for his future and hope I can team up with him in Tokyo soon – this is going to be legendary ๐
And if you think I’m going crazy
German Museum
On Sunday, Andreas, Stefan and me decided to visit the German Museum. It’s been a loooong time since I’ve been there for the last time and it’s really cheap for students, actually. We were wandering around for several hours and had a look at the departments for aviation, marine, chemistry, optical technology, physics and – of course – electrical engineering. Phew. It was a funny day but I’ve been freakin’ tired because I only had about 1.5 hours of sleep from Saturday ๐
Anyways, here are some pictures ๐
Getting used to my “normal” life in Germany again
Well… A lot of stuff is going on lately! As you might have noticed, my niece Chiara has been born and I can just say that she’s a little sunshine ๐
Anyways – I completely missed to tell that Tanaka Mamiko-san from Siemens visited Marcus and me in Munich and together with her father, we were doing the Tourist-thing: Having dinner in the “Hofbrรคuhaus”, climbing up the “Alter Peter”, visiting the “Frauenkirche” and many other famous spots and finally ending up in the “Englischer Garten” in the beer garden next to the “Chinesischer Turm”. It was great fun and I have to admit that I’ve never seen so much cultural and touristic stuff of Munich ever in my life – and I’m living in this city for more than five years now… -_-‘
During the last few days, I spent most of the time visiting Andrea and Patrick, the proud parents of Chiara and just hanging around with them. On Friday,my sister Manuela and her boyfriend Florian came to visit from Barcelona. We had a nice and funny weekend – of course including party, a lot of food and drinking ๐ Just by the way: I have to show off what a cool and sporty mom I’ve got! She participated in a half-marathon (about 21 kilometers) without any big preparation or training and ran a GREAT time of 2 hours, 2 minutes and 10 seconds!!!! WOW! Please applaud!
Here are some fresh pictures by the way ๐
