Fichtnparty aftermath and paintball

Yep that’s right. It was about time for a new episode in the long series of birthday parties in the peacful village of Dettendorf. This year’s motto was noblesse oblige and Andrea and me just had to answer that call πŸ˜‰ Big hands to Flo for inviting us and for arranging one hell of a party πŸ™‚

Flo and me showing our awesome hats! Yes, I suited up :)

The next day I’ve basically just been totally lazy. Except for one thing in the evening: After several years, I finally managed to play some rounds of paintball again! Like Barney’d say, it was legendary! πŸ˜€

Sleep, actually

Phew… It’s been a crazy time since my last post! To start with, sorry for being muted for so long – I just could not find the time and energy to write a few lines. Yeah I know it sounds like a lame excuse but still I hope someone’s going to buy the story πŸ˜‰

Ok, where shall I begin? Right, the EuroBot contest I went to! Well, let’s just say we’ve not been over-blessed with success… To be honest, we only managed to get through the “homologation” rounds and in the qulifications we only scored the last place πŸ™ That was a little frustrating because theoretically, our robot was one of the most promising ones in Dresden – theoretically, I say! In fact, we had several sensor- and motor’s precision-related issues and had to fall back to a somewhat “dumb” strategy without all the cool A.I. and pathfinding features my colleagues and me implemented from scratch in just a matter of weeks *sigh* But “participating is everything”, right? We had an awesome time in Dresden nevertheless and even thoguh we lost we totally dived into the city’s nightlife (which is quite cool in Dresden, by the way) πŸ˜€

Think you can imagine that I SO had to catch up with lots of hours of sleeping after that weekend and the weeks preceeding it πŸ˜‰ This has basically been one of the primary things I’ve been doing this week: SLEEPING, SCHLAFEN, 寝る… Oh no, I also had tons of good food, enjoyed the terrific weather we’re having in Munich lately, finally met friends and had time to relax – at last!

Now I realize there’ll be other tasks eating up my free time soon: Finding a job in Tokyo, completing the software I’ll write my thesis on, writing this just-mentioned thesis… Oh, and there will be my (hopefully) final exam season soon! So you can see, no time-out for poor Roland πŸ˜‰ And again, keep your fingers crossed πŸ˜€

Pix will be coming soon, promise! πŸ˜‰

Bowling during carnival season

I know it’s a bit late, but I completely forgot to post that… This is how it looks like when some nerds go out for bowling during carinval season πŸ˜€

Music Park in Erding

Last Saturday, a bunch of friends dragged me to the Music Park in Erding. To be honest, I was afraid that it’s going to be like that generic countryside-allrounder-discotheque which tends to be quite shitty at most times. Upon our arrival, I found out that it’s actually a relatively new, clean and well-organized club/disco! So eventually, we ended up dancing all night long until the break of dawn πŸ˜‰ It was really great fun, dudes – we’ll have to repeat that!! πŸ˜€ Pix can be found here.

Ah and just by the way; the last post “And if you think I’m going crazy” was the 42nd one in this blog πŸ˜‰

Snowy Bad Aibling, trashing a car and seeing a happy baby

We had loads of snow lately and within all the traffic mayhem caused by the weather, Patrick and me paid our last respects to my old Fiat Uno. It’s been a valuable companion during the past few years but several defects and the need for a safer and spacier car (Chiara’s here, you know ^^) finally led to the decision that we’ll have to say good-bye to the brave Italian. *sigh* Well, but at least Chiara was happy to see her aunt and her uncle again πŸ˜€

Flu, grades, cold, back on the track (rails) etc.

Well, well… So much has been going on and I don’t really know where to start. Hmm… Might be because I’ve not been writing so much lately πŸ˜‰

First of all, I got my grades. Okay, I was complaining and whyning a lot and to be honest, I was seriously not expecting too much. I don’t know how but I passed all exams and the grades are quite okay, actually! Yaay! πŸ˜€ So now, I can fully conentrate on the upcoming last semester with its four exams and, of course, my thesis. Wish me luck with all that!

But just as the last test was done and my stress-level fell I caught a mean flu which took me down for roughly a week already. I’ve still not fully recovered yet but it looks like it’s going to be over in one or two days. This is like so typical by the way: Just when the time’s here for me to relax, enjoy parties with friends, go to the gym on a more regular basis again etc. I get sick! D’oh!

Alright, what’s next? I’ve been using the time I had to stay at home and in bed to increase my Ruby on Rails knowledge. So it might have had a positive side, too. πŸ˜‰ This is the language / the framework I’ll build my thesis on and I should finally start again to work on that for I’ve not been doing anything there since January…

Oh and my dear sister will be coming home from Barcelona for a couple of days this week! She’ll have her viva voce – wow! Then we’re going to have another Dr. in the family πŸ™‚

Isogashii / Busy

Well, well… It’s been quite a long time since my last entry here. Sorry ’bout that. I’ve just been so freakin’ busy ever since my return from Japan. Final exams for this semester are closing in and I should have been studying instead of going to Tokyo but in my opinion, Tokyo was the way smarter choice πŸ˜‰

First of all, I want to present some pictures of my second trip to Japan, however, I did not take so many due to my own stupidity… As you might have read, I’ve lost my small pocket camera, so I packed the bigger one into my luggage. Alright. Got everything with me: the cam, lens protector, SDHC card, batteryd’oh! forgot the battery! So the only option for me to get at least a few pix was to buy a new battery at my favourite electronics store, Yodobashi Camera in Shinjuku…

Tokyo winter 2008/09

I was given the chance to enjoy the nice Tokyo winter, the great food and a lot of fun with many friends.Β It was a great week and I want to thank everyone who could find some time to see me! Hope to see you again soon πŸ˜‰ Oh and Ayumi, he LOVES the shoes πŸ˜€

So what did I do after coming back? Hmm not so many things, actually. Since my final exams for this semester are starting in one week already, I’m basically doing nothing but studying at the moment. Well, at least two pleasant things happened to me: My mom found my beloved Pentax camera and I finally got my new computer *yaaay* but I don’t really have the time to play with my new / old toys at the moment so this will have to wait until February πŸ˜‰

Merry Christmas!

MUC – HAM – MUC Grindel season ending session + chill boot camp

Monday morning, err, around noon: I’m riding the hilarious S8 of Munich’s public transportation system. After having spent a great weekend in Hamburg visiting family and friends, partyin’ and chillin’ since Friday, I feel a little tired but also happy big time! πŸ˜€

Now I’m ready 4 X-mas & after that TOKYO!! Wish you all a merry Christmas and especially a great start in 2009 (although I’ll be celebrating a few hours earlier than most of my readers, I assume ^^).

Wendelstein – Bavarian hiking pt. 2

Hey again! Last Saturday, we went hiking again! Okay, Andrea was being laaaazy and used the “I’ve got to look after the baby” excuse but the rest of us did it. The highest mountain in the area, the Wendelstein! Having had perfect weather with a lot of sunshine, it was just beautiful! Less than 140 minutes for almost 1000 meters of height distance is quite okay, too πŸ˜‰ The view was magnificent and we already found some snow at the peak. But enough talk, here are the pictures!
